Sustainable textiles is something I am seriously interested for two primary reasons:

1. Financial aspects … I am not ashamed to admit I am on a very low budget presently and recycling and reusing what I have is obviously going to be very helpful and hence my decision before I even start this assignment is to only use what I already have in my household – admittedly health issues here also have a bearing on this too it is not always easy to go out looking for materials that fit a theme or an assignment and this is becoming an ever bigger consideration in my work.
2. I transitioned to a vegan diet earlier this year and hence my interest in ethical and sustainable materials is increasing at a somewhat rapid rate as can be expected!

With regards to the actual assignment I am on very tight timescale of my own choosing so time management is going to be desperately needed and this again effects exactly what materials I chose to use and in what way – my discernment skills will be challenged! The research aspects bother me less in terms of time management than ensuring that I have sufficient time to work my sampling and the accompanied sketchbook work which I feel I have been slacking on in recent weeks – I am suspecting the techniques file will be set up first along with looking ahead to gather materials too into a bag or box from which to work from). Unfortunately many of the waste materials I worked on during the early part of the course I have disposed off but as they were domestic waste a decision now to re-collect is easily done and incredibly quickly (almost upsettingly so!)  – I am keen to look at in particular supermarket packaging which quite frankly drives me bonkers!

With regards to themes I would still like to continue to investigate the chronic illness if possible but maybe this is an opportunity to consider the environmental issues of plastic and see where that leads me or how I can investigate it and portray it …. thoughts to note down looking forward to Project 2.

I think it is clear to me at this earliest of stages that I need to be bearing in mind Projects 1 and 2 in conjunction with each other whilst writing up in the correct order to ensure I do not get confused – Word is going to come in very useful for publishing this blog!

In many ways I do feel that this assignment is perhaps the one that interests me most particularly if I can look to combine it with the innovative materials studied in the earlier part of the course.
